Holiday Fair Helps Community in El Salvador

3

Bangor - The season of giving is officially underway and one organization in Bangor is hoping you'll help out.

The Power in Community Alliances, known as PICA, held a holiday craft fair in Bangor on Sunday. PICA connects Bangor with it's sister city Carasque, El Salvador.

The Alliance started a few years ago when people in Bangor donated sewing machines to people in Carasque.

PICA holds his fair every year around the holidays to help the people in El Salvador and so people in Maine can buy quality handcrafted products. All the crafts on sale are made by people in El Salvador and 100%
o the proceeds go back to the city.

PICA Volunteer, Katherine Kates said "It's fair trade, it's not exploiting anybody's labor. People can trust that when we sell it for them here that they will be paid for all the hard work, creativity, and love that went into these goods."

If you'd like to volunteer or buy goods, you can call the PICA office in Bangor at 947-4203.
