If you don't feel like dealing with the crowd of shoppers on Black Friday, but are still looking for a deal, some Bangor shops have an alternative plan for you.
More than a dozen stores around downtown will be partaking in "Plaid Friday."
It's their own version of the infamous shopping day. The stores will all open by 10:00 a.m. Friday, offering plenty of discount deals, but none of the mayhem you might find elsewhere.
"We promise there will be no pushing or shoving or anything like that, no long lines. You won't have to wait outside at midnights for a sale. Come downtown and buy something cool," said Jason Bird of the Downtown Bangor Partnership, which organized the event.
Shoppers are encouraged to wear plaid to celebrate what store owners say is a more laid back approach to the shopping holiday.
