Bangor Salvation Army Hosts Thanksgiving Feast

Bangor - Volunteers from the Bangor Salvation Army served up a traditional Thanksgiving meal Tuesday.

They did so with the help of 15 other local groups.

About 200 people turned out for the feast at the Salvation Army's Dorthy Day Soup Kitchen, the dining room decorated with the holiday in mind.

Organizers say it's important to show those who might not have a family to sit down with on Thanksgiving that they are not forgotten.
"... Make them feel welcome, make them feel like this is a special occasion, we're not just coming to put food on your plate but we're going to welcome you and to make you feel like you're special and you have value," said Capt. Tim Clark of the Bangor Salvation Army.

As their Thanksgiving preparations wind down at the Salvation Army, preparations begin for the Christmas season.

there are several initiatives this year, including the "angel tree" at the bangor mall where shoppers can donate gifts to those in need.
