A convicted murderer from Lewiston has been sent back to prison for more than two years for threatening to kill an official with the Social Security Administration.
Harold Rowe was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland to two years and three months behind bars, followed by three years of probation.
The 55-year-old Rowe pleaded guilty in August to a charge of mailing threatening communications to the deputy commissioner for Budget, Finance and Management of the Social Security Administration in Baltimore in September 2011.
The Bangor Daily News, reports that Rowe threatened in a rambling letter full of spelling errors to kill the federal employee if his social security checks were stopped.
Rowe spent 27 years in prison for a 1982 drug-related shooting death.
