More Than 300 Attend Funeral Services for Orrington Fire Victims

3

Bangor - More than 300 friends, family and community members gathered in Bangor Sunday afternoon to say goodbye to the Johnson family.

Services were held over the weekend for Benjamin Johnson III and his three children who died in a fire at their Orrington home last Saturday. Benjamin's wife and the children's mother Christine Johnson survived.

Family members, including Benjamin's sister and nephew, spoke at the funeral, sharing stories and memories. The services also included some of the family's favorite songs.

Benjamin worked at Wal-Mart and Hollywood Casino and was an avid bowler. Several of his coworkers as well as folks he grew up bowling with in local and travel tournaments were among those who came to pay their respects.

"He was a good father. He just was an incredible person. He worked two jobs to support his family. It's just very sad and he was a wonderful person and I just feel so bad for his wife," said Merico Meucci, whose family owns Family Fun Bowling Center in Bangor. Meucci met Benjamin when they were just three years old at a bowling tournament.

Many community members are rallying support for the fire's lone surivor Christine Johnson. On Saturday night, a spaghetti supper was held at the Center Drive School in Orrington to help her out. Donations are also being accepted at Seaboard Federal Credit Union and People's United Bank in memory of the Johnson Family.
