Bangor Working on Making Hogan Road Safer for Pedestrians

3

Bangor - On Sunday night, two pedestrians were struck by a van and injured while crossing Hogan Road in Bangor. But prior to that, the city's engineering department had already been working on making that area safer.

The city has applied for transportation enhancement grants to make several roads more pedestrian-friendly. The grants are designed to fill in gaps in sidewalk areas that serve pedestrians. If the grant is approved, it would help pay for sidewalks and three crosswalks on Hogan Road.

"Our council has approved us seeking that money and we should hear next spring whether we've been successful in obtaining those grants. I think, just a guess, Hogan Road just got moved higher on the priority list," said Art Morgan, Bangor's Director of Public Services.

Morgan said the construction on Hogan Road alone would cost around $167,000.
