RSU 19 to Ask Voters to Consider Another Loan

RSU 19's school board is asking its voters to once again consider a loan.

On election day, voters in the Newport area turned down a $3.6 million loan to try fix a major budget shortfall. Since then the school district cut about $750,000.

On Wednesday night, the board approved a second attempt at a loan, this time for $2.9 million. It will have to be presented to voters at a public meeting and then voters will need to validate it through a referendum.

Superintendent Gregory Potter said he hopes the vote will happen in January.
