Reverend Faces Five Years in Prison for Smuggling Drugs into Jail

An Episcopalian priest from Augusta is facing up to five years in prison for smuggling drugs into a jail.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office accuses 70-year-old Reverend Stephen Foote of drug smuggling at the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset.

He was arrested and released on bail.

Also charged were two inmates, 25-year-old Joshua Theriault-Patten and 27-year-old Adam Shawley.

Authorities say Reverend Foote brought the synthetic Opiate Suboxone into the jail to give to Theriault-Patten, who was a former parishioner of his.
