Augusta -
After winning their majority back in the Maine Legislature, House Democrats began electing their new leadership Tuesday afternoon.
Representative Mark Eves of North Berwick will become the 101 Maine Speaker of the House.
Eves won the nomination, beating out three other Democratic challengers.
Eves is starting his third term in the house. He served as ranking minority member of the Health and Human Services Committee during the 125th Maine Legislature.
He's already vowing to work with Republicans, including Governor Paul LePage, to create jobs and get Maine's economy moving again. "It is time to take action. People need to get back to work and we need to use our time to do that. We're ready to work with anybody, any party, any governor that is interested in building the middle class and strengthening our economy," Eves said after winning the nomination.
Eves is expected to be formally elected when the new session starts on December 5th. He'ss take over for Republican Robert Nutting who finishes up his two year tenure.
Democrats also elected Representative Seth Berry of Bowdoinham as House Majority Leader.
Democrats won the majority back after being swept out of power in 2010. There are 41 freshman Democratic lawmakers that will serve over the next two years.
