Ground Broken On New Waterville Police Station

Waterville - The Waterville Police Department will soon have a new home.

Ground was broken Tuesday morning on their new facility at Colby Circle in Waterville.

The new 12,000 square-foot facility has a price tag of more than $3 million.

Police officials are looking forward to moving into their new home, which comes complete with a new room to process evidence. "We'll have a room we'll be able to fumigate for fingerprints. We'll be able to do some preliminary DNA collection and storage," Waterville Police Chief Joe Massey said Tuesday. "There's a lot of things the new building is going to allow us to do. Most of all we won't be turning sideways in the hall as we pass each other because it's so cramped."

The police station is currently in the basement of city hall.

The new facility is expected to be opening in June.
