For years, Carol Mower of Orono has dedicated her life to serving the community, and Monday she was honored for her work.
At a luncheon in Bangor, Mower was awarded the 2012 AARP Andrus Award, which is given to someone who makes a difference in the lives of others.
Surrounded by friends and family, the AARP Volunteer Ambassador explained why she is so passionate about giving back.
"Feeling that you're doing something with your time. Time is money, you know. I was a teacher for a number of years, and I knew I'd never be rich being a teacher, but I could volunteer my time and I really enjoy it," said Mower.
Mower told us she plans to continue volunteering for as long as possible.
