Passadumkeag Mountain, Penobscot County -
For the first time, the Department of Environmental Project has denied a plan to build a commercial wind farm in Maine.
Commissioner Patricia Aho Friday rejected the 14-turbine project for Passadumkeag Mountain.
DEP staff recommended it be turned down last week, saying it would disrupt a a "one-of-a-kind view" from Saponac Pond.
The group Passadumkeag Mountain Friends, which had fought the project, applauded the commissioner's decision.
The Texas-based company behind the project can appeal the decision to the Board of Environmental Protection or the state Supreme Court.
It can also be resubmitted, but a DEP spokesperson says the plan would have to be significantly changed first.
