Everyday Heroes are Honored by The Red Cross

3

Brewer - The local chapter of the American Red Cross honored heroes Thursday morning.

They're ordinary people who stepped up, when it mattered most, in extraordinary ways.

The Real Heroes Breakfast in Brewer recognized six local people for their life-saving efforts and Senator Susan Collins was on hand to help congratulate them.

Among the Heroes, was Nikki Jackson of Old Town. She preformed CPR on her three-year-old nephew who was found in the bottom of a pool. And Officer Andrew Weatherbee of Ellsworth who pulled a man from a burning car.

10 year-old Samantha Moore of Milbridge, a decorated Girl Scout, used her first aid skills to tend to a man who fell from some bleachers.

Orono High School students Anton Klose and Tyler Jewett rescued two people from the Stillwater River and kept the woman from drowning.

And Retired Colonel Timothy Hackett of Orono performed CPR on a friend who had a heart attack at a local dance.

All of the heros humbly say they did what anyone else would have done.

Todd Nadeau, Executive Director of the Red Cross Pine Tree Chapter said, "People don't think about what kind of recognition I might get. There's no time to think about things like that. They just do it because it's the right thing to do. And that's why they deserve the credit that they do and that's why we're having this event."

Lafayette Hotel was also recognized for their dedication to the Pine Tree Chapter of the Red Cross with the Extra Mile Award.

John Hafford, the General Manager of Texas Road House, Bangor and Sister Mary Norberta, Former CEO of St. Joseph Healthcare, were honored, too.

Starting next week we'll be sharing the stories of the Red Cross Real Heroes on our morning show and TV 5 news at 5.
