This disgusting and I am deeply disappointed in the maine people.Im ashamed to be a mainer and even an American to allow marrriage to be degraded like this.Whats next humans marrying animals??But i guess with all the new young voters that have no respect for themselves ,god or country it was bound to happen..makes me sick

I have only one thing to say to the first comment, OPEN YOUR MIND! People fall in love with the person, not on the bases of what sex they are! Why is marriage an idea that can only be dreamed about and obtained, by men and women couples. It is a symbol of commitment and love. My sister just got married to her wonderful girlfriend, which that have been together for 6 years. This marriage ceremony was full of passion, love and they were surrounded by people who love and supported them. The world and humanity is changing. Embrace it, or just step aside!

No, Maine does not support gay marriage, at least not most of us. It's a shame more people didn;t get out there and vote to keep traditional marriage, because it no longer means the same thing

Im so proud of Maine. This is a beautiful thing. As for the person before me who said its disgusting and about marrying animals, thats a bit exaggerated dont you think? And technically, america allows intercourse with a horse in 23 states already, so this isnt exactly downgrading. I HAVE respect for myself, others and my country which is why I voted YES on 1. Marriage isnt being downgraded by allowing same sex couples to marry, and its not being "redefined" either. Biblicly speaking a woman had to be a virgin to marry and if she wasnt she would be stoned to death. Also if her husband died before they could conceive then she would be forced to have intercourse with his brother until they conceive. ALSO, originally any couple that could not conceive and knew it could not get married, so not only is that same sex couples but elderly couples and anyone infertile. So, TECHNICALLY marriage has already been redefined.

oh shut the hell up, we are the same as everyone else. get over it, we have the right to get married as well as straight people. there is nothing in the bible that says we can't get married. Wow and people wonder why straight people are morons.

I just wanted to congratulate Maine on its victory and to the person who said its disgusting love is love. No one is a second class citizen and everyone deserves the same rights :)

I am so proud of the Maine community. We have become the first state to allow same-sex marriage through a vote. It's so great that people can marry the one they love, no matter that they are gay or lesbian. I understand that some people don't approve, but please do not imply that gay marriage will lead to beastiality. It is offensive. All marriage, whether gay or straight, is about the choice to marry the person you love. In "humans marrying animals," there is no choice. This is a fantastic moment in Maine history.

Actually the bible does state marriage is between a man and woman. I have never understood why homosexual women try to change their self image and exterior to look like a man?. It makes me wonder if this is some underlining issue of abuse as a child.

I seriously question today the values of a nation that puts at the head of its ballot one, drug dependency, and two the ideal of sexual preference, one that goes against any and all standards that life is, how it is and what it was meant to be. Today our standards have been brought so low as to make one wonder just where is this country going, when drug dependency and the rights of a sexual deviant have become first and foremost the priority of government and law and second, a move to deny and oppress the rights of many... The right to 'not accept'... The right 'not to agree'... The right not to have your life imposed upon by those who wish to flaunt not only deviant and inhuman sexual pleasure, but those who would pride themselves of their own weaknesses, cowardice and self-denial not only of a sexual nature but their inability to abstain from drug use and abuse... The promoting of pot use and homosexuality in and of themselves is a testament to the slow degradation of our society, her people and the dark future we see for her children. And don't blame God. He gave you the freedom to make choices. Wasn't his fault you made the wrong ones...
