Flags at Half Staff in Honor of Former Governor John Reed


Flags in Maine will be flown at half staff Wednesday, in honor of former Governor John Reed.

Governor LePage directed the order, flags are to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday.

Governor Reed will be remembered at a memorial service in Washington D.C. Wednesday.

Reed died last week at the age of 91. He was a native of Aroostook County who served in World War Two, and served as an Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives under Rresidents Nixon and Reagan.

Reed served as Maine's governor from 1959 until 1967.

at least two places up North (Houlton and Fort Fairfield) are at half staff TODAY. not really appropriate on Election Day I don't think.
