One of two men accused of robbing the Taconnet Federal Credit Union in Skowhegan three years ago was sentenced in Bangor, Thursday.
Forrest Goodwin Jr., 34, of Fairfield was found guilty in June of being an accessory to the crime. During a sentencing hearing in federal court, Judge John Woodcock ordered Goodwin serve 3 1/2 years in prison and pay $1,700 in restitution, a fee which Woodcock said was Goodwin's cut of the more than $9,000 stolen.
Goodwin's co-defendant, Paul Garland of Oakland, pleaded guilty to the robbery in April and is serving eight years behind bars. Woodcock told Goodwin in court, "I consider you very lucky," and warned him that he could have faced a sentence like Garland's had his attorney not been so skilled during his trial, convincing the jury he was not guilty of the robbery.
Following his sentence, Goodwin will be placed on three years of supervised release and have to pay a fine of $2,000.
