Election Ethics Commission Clears Democratic State Senate Candidate

Augusta - The Maine election ethics commission has decided not to investigate allegations of improper fundraising by a Democratic state Senate candidate who came under fire from Republicans for playing the online role-playing game World of Warcraft.

The Morning Sentinel, reports the ethics commission ruled unanimously Wednesday that no further investigation was needed into allegations that Colleen Lachowicz of Waterville improperly coordinated fundraising activities with ActBlue, a national group that supports liberal causes. The complaint was lodged by the state Republican Party.

After Lachowicz's participation in the game became news, others gamers asked how they could support her. As a clean elections candidate, she could not accept donations, so she directed people to ActBlue's website.

Lachowicz is challenging incumbent Republican Thomas Martin of Benton for a seat that represents communities in Kennebec and Somerset counties.
