Brewer students have a new option for dental care.
The Brewer School-Based Health Center now has a dentist on staff. It's the only school facility of its kind in Maine to have a dentist.
Penobscot Community Health Care is the provider; offering medical care, mental health counseling, and dental care.
"Dental problems can lead to other physical problems and also missed school because of pain and lack of concentration in their studies if they're dealing with a toothache. We're able to address those needs here at school," said Kathrin Hastey, a family nurse practitioner.
The school-based care operates just like a regular dental office. Parents call call in and set up appointments for their children.
The clinic takes all insurance and has an affordable care program so no one gets turned away.
