Students Throughout the State will be Casting Mock Ballots

3

Augusta - Students in 240 elementary, middle and high school students across Maine are casting mock ballots this week for president, U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

The students casting ballots Tuesday will also vote on the five statewide referendum questions to appear on Maine ballots a week later.

Following the vote, a "Rally and Tally" event will take place Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Augusta State Armory.

Maine first lady Ann LePage, Secretary of State Charlie Summers, and congressional and legislative candidates will participate in the event, which will also provide students with an opportunity to hear directly from candidates, make campaign posters, make stump speeches and vote on special mock election event ballots.

The mock election program helps to prepare students for participation in the democratic process.
