Parents Raise Money for Project Graduation

3

Belfast - Parents in Belfast are auctioning off items to raise money for their High School Seniors.

It's all part of Project Graduation 2013. Some of the top items included 100 gallons of heating oil and a years worth of Dunkin Dounuts, but the big prize of the day: two 10-day African safari trips. Parents auctioned off these items so their students can have a drug and alcohol free celebration at the end of the school year.

Co-Chair of Project Graduation, Elyzabeth Richards, said "Every year you hear about fatalities of graduates drying from accidents with drugs or alcohol and we just said 'We don't want it.' It's been a tradition here at the Belfast Area High School for parents to do this and we're taking it on."

The parents hope to raise another $5,000 after Sunday's event. In the winter, they'll have another fundraiser with comedian Bob Marley. Then in March they'll be selling tickets to the Harlem Superstars.
