Winterport Man Pleads Guilty To Reduced Charges In 2011 Domestic Incident; Avoids Jail Time

Belfast - A man from Winterport who assaulted his girlfriend then got into a standoff with police is avoiding jail time.

35-year-old Joseph Chekovsky was sentenced in a Belfast courtroom Thursday.

Prosecutors struck a deal to reduce domestic violence charges to assault and criminal mischief and Chekovsky was fined $600.

Last year he tried to slash the tires to his girlfriend's car and smashed a car window, sending glass into her face.

Armed with a knife, he went back into the house with the woman's 11-year-old son inside.

Several hours later, Chekovsky surrendered to police.

The boy wasn't hurt.
