Upgrades by FairPoint Will Give 11 Communities Faster Broadband Service

3

FairPoint Communications says customers served by 11 of its central offices in Maine will see faster broadband service thanks to upgrades that have been approved.

FairPoint says the Maine Public Utilities Commission has approved a plan to allow FairPoint to invest about $450,000 to install new technology in those central offices.

FairPoint's network upgrade will benefit customers served by offices in Bowdoinham, Corinth, Dexter, Mechanic Falls, Monroe, Searsport, Sullivan, Vinalhaven, Washburn, Wilton and Woodland. The upgrades will begin soon and FairPoint expects to complete the work by the end of the year.

The network upgrades include adding Ethernet high-speed equipment to those communities, enabling more customers to achieve the full speed potential of the FairPoint's next-generation network.
