North Anson -
A New Portland man is in jail and charged with terrorizing after police say he threatened a woman and his three children with a rifle.
Authorities were called to a home on Union Street in North Anson just before 3:00 Tuesday morning after they say 30-year-old Randy Grover Jr. barged in. "It is alleged that he was armed with a rifle and threatened harm to the family that was inside the home," said Dale Lancaster, Deputy Chief at the Somerset County Sheriff's Department.
Inside was a woman Grover had a prior relationship with and the couple's three children. The woman managed to call the Somerset County Sheriff's Department, but before authorities arrived they say Grover fled the scene. "When the deputies arrived, and Madison police, perimeters were set up," Lancaster said. "We were unable to locate the individual. At that point a tactical team was called in. As they were responding and working the scene, we had detectives coming in doing search warrants and arrest warrants."
An extensive search for Grover followed. The local schools in RSU 74 were delayed two hours while they searched. Police eventually found Grover on the railroad bridge that crosses the Carabassett River between Route 16 and Union street. "He was confronted by a Madison Police officer and a Somerset County deputy." Grover was not armed and was arrested without incident.
Authorities are still searching for the rifle Grover is alleged to have had with him. For now he remains in the Somerset County Jail charged with domestic violence terrorism. More charges could be added once the District Attorney finishes reviewing the case.
