Planetarium Celebrates National Astronomy Day

3

Orono - Saturday is "National Astronomy Day" and what better way to celebrate than a visit to the planetarium!

The Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium at Umaine opened it' doors to the public on Saturday. Families took tours of the facility and attended telescope workshops.

Visitors even got to build their own working telescopes as part of the demonstrations. This event gives the experts a chance to peak the public's interest on astronomy.

Director of the Planetarium, Alan Davenport, said "We do have the activities set up so that they can learn about space and the universe just a little bit and hopefully they are taking away a new appetite for the subject."
