Brewer -
Libraries across the state gathered information on Wednesday to demonstrate how their services can benefit Mainers.
Brewer Public Library was one of those participating in "Snapshot Maine 2012 - Libraries Connect: People, Community, Jobs." It's designed to gather statistics on how many people use these libraries and how many items are checked out.
Brewer showcased some of its programs throughout the day, including a new kids program to help them learn to read. Children there spend time with a therapy dog named Ginger and read out loud to her. Ginger visits the library every Wednesday from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.
"Hopefully it will help children to read better and to be in a relaxed atmosphere, hear their own voices, be able to read out loud and not be criticized, not be afraid," said Ginger's handler Sally Labertu.
The data collected from all of the libraries involved in Snapshot Maine will be used to explain the value of public libraries in communities throughout the state.
