U.S. Marine Band Performs in Orono

3

Orono - "The President's Own" United States Marine Band performed at the University of Maine on Tuesday.

Their performance at the Collins Center For The Arts was part of their 31 day tour.

The concert featured a diverse mix of music ranging from the traditional band repetoire and marches to instrumental solos.

The band's director Colonel Michael Colburn says, "We try to make sure that every program we take on tour has a bit of everything in it. This has some patriotic music, it has some original, some orchestral transcripts, and marches too. Of course people would be disappointed if they came to a Marine Band concert and didn't hear some marches

Colonel coburn is a native New Englander, born in Vermont.

He says performing in Maine feels like coming home.

Christopher White is a the University of Maine Symphonic Band Director and says that he is thrilled to host them.

It has been 10 years since the Marine Band has performed in Orono.

The Marine Band is the oldest continuously active professional music organization in the country.
