Wounded Warrior Machine Gun Shoot Draws a Large Crowd in North Anson

North Anson - Despite heavy showers, about 200 people traveled to a North Anson gun range to fire machine guns in a benefit for veterans injured in combat.

The third annual Wounded Warrior Machine Gun Shoot on Sunday saw the participants, including 17 wounded veterans, take aim at targets ranging from explosives-packed pumpkins to old pickup truck bodies.

Range owner Andy Williams, who founded the event, said that about 15,000 rounds were fired in five hours.

The guns fired ranged from a replica of a hand-cranked 1884 Colt gatling gun to an M60 machine gun.

Williams said all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Maine Wounded Warrior Program.
