Liberty -
Bald is beautiful, at least it was for people attending an event in Liberty on Sunday.
The Community came together in a big way to fight cancer with some new hair cuts. Participant, Rodny Glidden said, "I'm gonna shave my head but not my beard."
The event was founded by Lori Mayer, to help her friend suffering from
lung cancer. Unfortunately, her friend, Joy Mehuren, lost her battle with cancer last year, but "Joy to be Bald" is held in her honor. "She was an awesome person and she fought until the end and wanted to help people herself," said Mayer.
This annual event continues to raise funds to help local families each
year. This year's recipient, Heather Wilson, was diagnosed with breast cancer
this summer. Wilson's Husband, Matthew Wilson said, "I can't even put into words how huge this is and how much of a help it is because I don't know what else we'd do."
Jennifer Gunderman-King offered to have all of her hair chopped off if she could raise $400 and she did just that. "So, 21 inches came off. It's breezy and cool but it was totally worth
it."
Organizers say that Joy would have been proud. "She would be amazed and she would have tears going down her face knowing that we were helping somebody who's gone through what she has," said Mayer.
This small town's resident's say they will continue to fight cancer one lock at a time.
