Cancer Care of Maine Urges Residents to be a Bone Marrow Donor

3

Bangor - Cancer Care of Maine held a Bone Marrow Drive at the Bangor YMCA on Sunday.

The event was held in memory of their co-worker, Donna, who recently passed away. She was waiting for a bone marrow transplant when she lost her battle with cancer.

Medical Assistant Tanya Palmer said becoming a donor will only take a minute. "It's quick. There's a one page form to fill out, a quick cheek swab, and then we send it off to the company and they in turn put you in a database and contact you if there's a potential match."

Palmer says over 18,000 people around the country currently waiting for a bone marrow transplant.
