RSU 19 Voters to Talk About Whether to Pursue $3.6 Million Loan

Corinna, Dixmont, Etna, Hartland, Newport, Palmyra, Plymouth, St. Albans - Folks in RSU 19 are considering whether to let voters decide if the school district should take out a $3.6 million loan. The loan would fix a major budget shortfall.

RSU 19 covers 8 communities, including Newport, Corinna and St. Albans.

School board members voted last month to pursue the 10-year loan as a way to fill the budget gap.

Superintendent Greg Potter says without the loan, the district will default on payments and will have to make considerable cuts.

He says mistakes in expected funding for the last two budgets are to blame.

A public meeting is scheduled for Saturday morning to give people the chance to decide if the loan plan should wind up on the November ballot.

It starts at 10 a.m. at Sebasticook Valley Middle School in Newport.
