TD Bank Data Breach Affects 35,000 Mainers

Lewiston - TD Bank has told the Maine Attorney General's Office that the personal information of nearly 35,000 Maine residents, including Social Security and bank account numbers, may have been compromised by the loss of bank data in March.

The number was disclosed in a letter from the bank to the state dated Oct. 5 and obtained by the Sun Journal, on Thursday. The Nashua Telegraph, reports that an unspecified number of New Hampshire customers also are affected.

The bank's chief privacy officer acknowledged that two computer data backup tapes went missing while they were being shipped to a TD Bank location. The letter said the tapes may have included not only names, addresses, Social Security numbers and bank account numbers, but also dates of birth and driver's license numbers.

This isnt the 1st time TD has lost data, probably not the last. I switched to a smaller, local credit union. Better service, better loan rates, and very low fees.
And no data losses to date!
