Bangor - A Bangor police detective is accused of driving drunk in a police cruiser.

Penobscot County District Attorney, Christopher Almy, told TV-5 Erik Tall was issued a summons for operating under the influence on October 3rd. Almy said the officer was on duty at the time of the incident.

City Manager Cathy Conlow will only confirm that a police department employee has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation into alleged misconduct.

Almy said, "I just think it's important to realize that our office has a very consistent policy of treating all of these cases the same, no matter where you come from, what your position is, or who you are. If you're charged with an OUI, the case goes to court as an OUI."

The Penobscot County DA said Tall could be sentenced to a maximum of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine. The officer will appear in court on November 14th.
