The hallway at the Somerset Career and Technical Center on Thursday morning was filled with students taking steps toward their future.
"We have 26 different colleges here from around New England, community colleges and universities, and it's an opportunity for our senior students and Skowhegan High School students to come get information, ask questions of the reps, and just start planning their future pathways," said student services coordinator, Ann Thiboutot.
Pathways that could take students to schools locally or even to Ohio to learn how to work with race car drivers.
"We actually have our own racetrack. We have race teams. A student could learn to be an auto mechanic, diesel mechanic, high performance motor sports tech. We take students to Daytona in February. About 60 students go down," said Bob Alexander, an admissions representative for the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Students like having different options in front of them.
"There are many good colleges for culinary arts. I'm also interested in a veterinary, so there's a wide variety of schools that offer those programs," said senior Ariana Rowe.
It's events like these that seem to be leading the vocational students at SCTC down the college pathway.
"We just won an award from Kennebec Valley Community College that we have the highest percentage of students that are duel enrolled, who actually go to college," said Thiboutot.
Helping students find the right road for them.
"It's all about aspirations," said Thiboutot.
