Bangor City Council Adopts Resolution in Support of Same-Sex Marriage

Bangor - The Bangor City Council unanimously adopted a resolution in support of a “Yes” vote on Question 1, which would allow same-sex couples to receive a marriage license while also protecting religious freedom.

“We want to thank the Bangor City Council for supporting the freedom to marry for all loving, committed couples in Maine,” said Matt McTighe, campaign manager for Mainers United for Marriage. “The resolution passed tonight makes a strong case for why marriage matters to all families and why same-sex couples should be allowed to receive a marriage license.”

The text of the resolution says that every resident of Bangor should be able to fully participate in society, including the freedom to marry and that domestic partnerships, while well intentioned, are an inadequate substitute for marriage.
