Voters are heading to the polls in less than a month, but one group is making sure their voices are heard.
Almost 100 people with cognitive or physical disabilities filled the Bangor Motor Inn Convention Center on Wednesday. It's the annual meeting for the self-advocacy network, Speaking Up for Us of Maine.
The conference was a mix between learning and fun. Participants attended workshops, such as learning to live independently and learning how to register to vote.
Self Advocate, Speaking Up for Us of Maine, Eric McVay, said "I just feel like it's very important that we converge, we get together, we network and we talk about some of the important things that are going on across the state."
Advocates want to make sure the local and state representatives understand their point of view.
