The cost of home heating oil in Maine has inched up two cents in the past week to an average of $3.70 per gallon.

The Governor's Energy Office announced Tuesday that current prices are 26 cents per gallon higher than at the same time last year.

The lowest prices are in the southwest area of the state where the average is $3.63 per gallon. Prices are highest in the northern reaches of Maine, where prices are at an average of $3.86 per gallon.

The office found heating oil as low as $3.50 per gallon in some areas. The highest price was $3.93.

The statewide kerosene price average is $4.14 per gallon, up four cents from last week.

This is such a ripoff!! The part that is so frustrating about gas, oil and K-1 is that the public has not control over the price. It seems that any outside factor albeit weather, delivery problems (self made) or just greed changes the price. I do not remember growing up in Maine and having the prices change daily or even hourly. Seems to me the oil and gas companies wole up and realized they control the price and the flow and are pretty much self regulated and they work the system.

A few years ago the gas companies tried to jack up the price of deisel and the truck drivers revolted. The price dropped everything became quiet again, the gas companies learned and adapted and today here we are. the gas companies know we can not stop driving to work, stop living our lives so they can do whatever they want with the price and we have to pay.
