Searsport may be one step closer to getting a $40 million dollar liquid propane tank.
On Monday, the Searsport planning board determined that the out-of-state company DCP Midstream had successfully completed an application to build a 22.7 million gallon tank.
The Maine Fuel Board approved their plans last month.
On Saturday, the local non-profit "Thanks But No Tank" mailed a letter to the selectman saying the application was "incomplete and badly flawed".
They question if the applicant could demonstrate the financial capacity to complete the project.
Steve Hinchman is an attorney representing the group. He says, "We have sort of a bad corporate neighbor coming to town, high risk project, and set up as a limited liability company such that if anything did happen, there would be no recourse to my clients, to the town of Searsport, or anybody else in the community."
The group "Isleboro Island Trust" commissioned a risk assessment of the project through "Good Harbor Consulting".
Following that report, the planning board will host a public forum, tentatively scheduled for November 26th.
At that point, the planning board votes on whether or not to approve the project.
