Gay Marriage Opponents Launch TV Campaign

Portland - Gay marriage opponents are going on the airwaves with an ad featuring a high school guidance counselor who claims he was targeted for supporting "traditional marriage."

One of the two ads by Protect Marriage Maine features former school counselor Donald Mendell, who came under fire in 2009 after appearing on TV in opposition to same-sex marriage.

A complaint was filed with Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, questioning the guidance counselor's fitness to continue serving as a licensed social worker in Maine.

The ad says people like Mendell who opposed gay marriage have "fired, sued, fined and punished" in places where same-sex marriage has been legalized. Mendell has since retired from Nokomis High School.

If those opposed to gay marriage were to do this to a homosexual teacher or counselor we would be called bigots and sued for intolerance. The homosexual lobby are the intolerant ones, If you oppose them they will cause problems for you. This is what happens when unions and the Democrats control the government. ALL public employees should be fired if they appear in a political ad. At the same time Mr Mendell was being hastled, another teacher from Nokomis High school was in an ad supporting gay marriage and nothing was done to her.

The teacher was NOT fire, fined, sued or had any negative repurcussions. The law worked.

I don't think a counselor from a high school where there are gay and lesbian teens should EVER speak about his personal political opinions about THEIR lifestyle!
