Body of Killed Soldier Arrives in Houlton Monday

Houlton - An emotional scene in Houlton this morning as the body of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan arrived back home.

The casket of 33 year-old Sgt. First Class Aaron Henderson was escorted through town to Bowers Funeral Home.

Henderson was a graduate of Hodgdon High School.

Today, the community, including close friends, lined the streets in town to pay their respects.

He will be missed by his family and friends, his fellow soldiers, and his community who lined the streets for the procession Monday morning in Houlton. Sergeant First Class Aaron Henderson was a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier who died last Monday in Afghanistan from an improvised explosive device.

"I knew Aaron actually when he was born, known the family my whole life."

"For one thing Aaron Henderson did mean a lot to our community I'm here as part of the Christian Academy and a bunch of these kids here are from the school. He had a family in the school, and we think it's important for the kids to understand something about what this really meant."

Service personnel and American Legion riders lead the escort of Sergeant Henderson from the Houlton airport to the Bowers Funeral Home. And the community was there for every turn in the route to show their respect.

"I tell ya I was really stirred by what I saw today, this is the second time the last couple of years that we've seen a community action like this reaction I should say as to what they think of our soldiers and how their serving our country and just couldn't be any more proud of the community that we live in."

"It's respect for people who give their life for us, that we might have."
Henderson's funeral will be held Wednesday in the gym at Houlton High School.

There is a public visitation at noon, followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM.
