Ellsworth Fire Department Educates Residents on Fire Safety

3

Ellsworth - October is Fire Prevention Month. In honor of the celebration, one fire station is held its annual open house to teach residents about fire safety.

The Ellsworth Fire Department opened its doors to the public to educate them on fire hazards. Firefighters wanted to make it fun for the younger kids to understand what to do in case of a fire, but hidden in all the games are some very important safety tips.

Fire Prevention Office, Gary Saunders, said "The serious point is that we do need to make sure that we have working smoke alarms in our homes, and a way out, a meeting place, and things like that."

Besides fire safety, there was a blood drive on site, sponsor by the American Red Cross.

The department sold raffle tickets to raise money for the Firefighters Convention being held next year. Ellsworth Firefighters are also welcoming two new fulltime employees. They were able to add Brandon Randall and Adam Brackett to their staff thanks to a federal grant that will pay for new employees salaries for the next two years.
