Old Town/Orono Animal Orphanage Back Open after Treating Scabies and Ringworm Outbreak

3

Old Town, Orono - The Old Town-Orono Animal Orphanage is open again after being shut down due to a scabies and ringworm outbreak.

The outbreak forced them to shut their doors for six weeks while the infected cats were being treated.

They say the kitties have been cleared by the vet and are now ready for adoption.

They tell us potential pet-owners can be assured that all of the animals there have a clean bill of health.

"Actually, these guys are pretty healthy because they've gone through an extra extent of testing and all their antibiotics they've been on and so forth and so on," said Lorie Smart, a member of the Old Town/Orono Animal Orphanage Board of Directors.

The orphanage is a no-kill shelter for cats and dogs.

For more information on adoption, call 827-8777.

Until they get a decent vet, these things will continue to happen. Used this vet for 3 cats = 3 dead cats.
