Bangor -
A Veazie man was sentenced to a year and a half in prison for robbing multiple convenience stores in December of 2011.
Brian Caggiano, 29, received his sentence in a Bangor court room on Thursday. He and Apryl Vanags, 25, robbed Garland Street Market and Mount Hope Variety Store last year. Vanags is serving her 18 month sentence.
Caggiano pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery, but his sentencing was put on hold when the judge suggested he go into a substance abuse program.
The 29-year-old believes rehab has changed him and he is sorry for what he did. Caggiano said, "I've grown spiritually, mentally and definitely physically in the past 10 months. I was a mess when I first came here, I was not looking good. It feels great to be clean headed and be able to make good decisions again."
Caggiano does have a criminal past, including a domestic assault in 2008. After his sentence, he will be on probation for three years. He also will pay $500 in restitution to the Garland Street Market.
