Demolition on Old Waldo-Hancock Bridge to Begin November 1st

3

Prospect - An 81-year-old bridge over the Penobscot River in Prospect is expected to start coming down, in less than a month.

Construction crews are scheduled to begin the demolition of the Waldo-Hancock Bridge on November 1st.

The Department of Transportation project manager says some of the initial work to take the bridge apart is already underway, such as cutting the steel.

The $5.3 million plan is expected to wrap up in June or July.

The Waldo-Hancock Bridge was built in 1931 and was replaced by the Penobscot Narrows Bridge in 2006.
