The UMaine Black Bears hosted Villanova in their first conference game of the year today. That game was on TV5.
Maine coming in at 1-2 overall on the year and trying to rebound from last week's home loss to Albany.
They might've wanted to get off to a good start, but it was the Wildcats who clawed their way to the end zone early. Quarterback John Robertson hitting Norman White for a 27-yard score less than two minutes into the 1st quarter. Just like that, it was 7-0 Villanova.
But a good response from the Black Bears. Less than two minutes after that,
Quarterback Marcus Wasilewski keeps it himself and trots his way to the big house, capping a 76-yard drive to tie the game at seven.
Villanova would take a 14-7 lead late in the first quarter. Then early 2nd quarter, it's Kevin Monangai who runs 13 yards to the promiseland for one of his two touchdowns on the ground today. That put Villanova up 21-7. The Black Bear defense allowing 314 yards rushing to the Wildcats today, and that was the difference.
Villanova knocks off UMaine, 35-14. The Black Bears fall to 1-3 overall on the year. Coach Jack Cosgrove spoke with our Tim Throckmorton after the game.
