Baby Sitters Charged after Tying up Toddler

Waterville - Two adult baby sitters accused of tying a 2-year-old girl to a coffee table are facing charges in Maine.

Waterville Deputy Police Chief Charles Rumsey says 49-year-old Martha Blanchard and 51-year-old Daniel Post attached the rope to the toddler because she refused to stay away from the fridge. He tells the Morning Sentinel that the toddler was one of four siblings between 1 and 6 in the care of Post and Blanchard.

A neighbor called police after seeing the toddler asleep on the floor, bound with rope and wearing soiled clothes.

The two were summonsed Thursday night with endangering the welfare of a child. They couldn't be reached for comment on Saturday. Rumsey says the girl was unhurt.
