Maine Guide Offers Handicapped Accessible Services

3

Bradford - Maine guides are still busy as folks enjoy all that fall has to offer.

A man in Bradford is offering his services to a group that may have had to forgo trips on the river in the past.

Joy Hollowell has the story.

"I grew up fishing, I learned how to fly fish on Souderhunk Lake with my uncle. And I just have a real love of Maine."

Rich Yvon has turned that love into a life-changing career. The former billing automation representative is now a Maine guide. His business, Twin Maple Outdoors, started up this past spring.

The Bradford man wanted his guide services available to everyone, and that includes folks with special needs.

"I did purchase this boat with that in mind," says Yvon. "We have a space in the back of the driver's seat that's flat and roomy. We can put a wheelchair in there and give them ample room."

Yvon offers more than just fishing trips.

"If somebody is in a wheelchair and they just want to enjoy the foliage or nature, I more than welcome that experience as well," he says.

Sharing his passion is what propels Yvon, and he wants to give anyone, no matter what their mobility, a chance to enjoy the great outdoors.

"If somebody is sitting there in a wheelchair, or don't even have the means to get out and I can give them that opportunity," says Yvon. "I think it will enrich their lives and it will give me a real reward at the end of the day."
