Rumford Defense Attorney Takes Responsibility for Bomb Threats

3

Farmington - A prominent Maine defense attorney has pleaded no contest to calling in bomb threats to two Wilton elementary schools, but won't spend time behind bars.

Ronald Hoffman of Sumner was sentenced last week to a one-year suspended sentence.

He was ordered to pay nearly $6,000 in restitution for public safety responses to the threats, and told to stay away from both schools.

Hoffman, who practices out of Rumford, was charged with terrorizing for the threats March 29 to Cushing and Academy Hill schools. The threats forced the evacuation of 363 students, most between 3 and 7.

The Sun Journal, reports that Hoffman's lawyer said in court that his client suffers from a variety of ailments and takes 10 medications that often interact, but accepts responsibility for his actions.
