Unity - The Common Ground Country Fair brought thousands of people to Unity this weekend. The fair began Friday and wrapped up Sunday.

Its claim to fame is attracting vendors from right here in Maine that specialize in organic foods and handmade products.

Fair Director Jim Ahearne said it was another successful year.

"We had misty skies yesterday, but over 23,000 people came down, Friday we had about 19,000 people here, over 5,000 school kids. It's been great, really everything that we hope for," said Ahearne on Sunday.

His hope is that everyone who comes to the fair learns something new, and with around 700 farmers, small business owners and artisans to mingle with that's definitely a possibility.

Throughout the weekend, some of those vendors put on workshops and demonstrations. They also had their own booths set up so folks could learn about products directly from the person who made it.

Handweaver Kelly Barham is a part of the festival for the second year as a vendor, but she said she used to come to the fair just to check it out.

"I just love being here. It feels like the way the world could be if everyone sort of did what they were good at, and grew food that was healthy for everyone and worked together to take care of eachother. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's true," said Barham of Bound For Glory Textiles.

If you missed it this year, mark your calendars for 2013. The fair is always the third weekend after Labor Day.
