5th Annual Race for Myeloma in Bangor

Bangor - The Fifth Annual Race for Myeloma took place at Broadway Park in Bangor on Saturday.

The 5K race was organized to help raise money for the rare blood cancer

The race raised $8,000 last year. A goal of $10,000 was set for this year.

Organizers say that raising awareness for a rare disease is just as important as raising money.

"Part of what I'm trying to do is raise awareness and I think getting people out, getting them together and running the streets of Bangor makes people stop and take notice at least for a little bit," said organizer Becky Reeve.

Reve also says that twenty families in the Bangor area are affected by myeloma every year.

All the money raised goes to the multiple myeloma research foundation.
