Attorney General's Office Investigating the Death of a Bangor Man

3

Bangor - The Maine attorney general's office is investigating the death of a Bangor man with a history of mental illness and drug use after he died at a hospital about a week after police used a stun gun on him.

A spokeswoman for the office said Thursday that an investigation into the death of 28-year-old Philip McCue was launched because he died in custody.

Bangor police did not release details of the incident and said McCue was not charged with a crime.

His parents tell the Bangor Daily News, their son was involved in an "altercation" with police on Sept. 12 and an officer used a Taser on him.

He was taken to the hospital where he suffered two heart attacks and remained in a coma until his death. An autopsy is scheduled.
